rainshadow

Rain, arriving from the Pacific Ocean, bumps up against the Olympic Mountains and drops huge amounts of precipitation. This creates a beautiful rain forest just a short drive away, but also creates what we call a “rainshadow.” With most of the moisture falling on the coast, the Port Townsend area gets only about 16 inches of rain a year.
